Women for Women: A Research and Study Group is a leading women's organization founded in 1973. The group enjoys the unique distinction of being the pioneer in the field or research on women and development and related issues in the country. Through an impressive record op publications and consciousness raising activities such as seminars, conferences and workshops, Women For Women contributed significantly to the society's awareness and understanding of women's issues and concerns.

Over the years the Group strongly felt the need for conseientising women and men against discrimination and exploitation of women and worked towards mainstreaming women in development. Along with this effort the Group strengthened its role in advocacy, networking for addressing women's concerns and promoting gender equality. Towards this end Women For Women undertook a leading role in the national preparatory activities of NGO Forum towards the Fourth World Conference on women in Beijing, 1995. Based on this expiration, members of the group extensively involved themselves in the preparation of National Action Plan (NAP) and other post Beijing actives. Currently. Currently Women For Women is serving as the secretariat of the NGO Coalition of Beijing plus Five (NCBP which is the largest network of NGOs of the country working towards implementation of NAP, formulated in the framework of Beijing Platform For Action (PFA), by the government and NGOs.

All of these activities are carried out by the members of the Groups with the help of a small body of supporting staff. The members are drawn from different professional fields and are affiliated with government, non-government bodies and women's organizations. Collectively they have brought together a wide range of experience and expertise which is the driving force of this organization working towards empowering women and promoting gender equality.

This book present a brief account of the objectives, structure and the activities of Women For Women. Essentially, it is an archive of the Group which is an extension of an earlier publication 'Twenty two Years of Women For Women'. It is meant for preserving the history of this organization. We hope the readers and the members of this organization in the coming years will have some idea about the nature of this voluntary organization developed to promote gender equality in this part of the world. May God bless Women For Women to strengthen its effort towards achieving success in future.
